How Beauty Creators Get Brand Deals: From PR Packages to Paid

How beauty creators move from free PR packages to paid brand deals, what brands check first, and the honesty rules that protect your audience.

Updated 10/24/2026 · Plane Site Talent Management

Beauty creators usually get brand deals in three stages: gifted product in exchange for a post, then unsolicited PR packages once brands notice you, then paid deals once you can show what your posts did for a brand. The fastest way up is a clear niche, strong demo content, honest reviews and a follow-up that shows results. Follower count matters less than most people think.

This guide walks through how that ladder works, how to pitch beauty brands, and the rules that matter more in beauty than almost anywhere else.

Gifted, PR package or paid: know the difference

These three get mixed up all the time. Influee draws a useful line (Influee):

  • PR package. Free product with nothing expected back. If it shows up without you asking, you owe nothing.
  • Gifted collab. Free product in exchange for an agreed post. No cash, but you made a deal.
  • Paid deal. A fee for a sponsored post on your channel.

Most creators start with gifted collabs because you can start those yourself by pitching. Unsolicited packages come once brands find you. Paid posts come once you can prove what your past posts achieved (Influee). Gifting is a stage, not a ceiling.

What beauty brands look at

Brands screen for niche fit, content quality, engagement and whether you post often, not only size. Influee says a smaller account with strong, polished demos can beat a bigger account with weak content, and calls about 1,000 followers a practical starting point for many gifting programs, with posting three to five times a week helping (Influee).

What that means for your content:

  • Show the product working. Swatches, before and after in good light, wear tests, close ups of texture.
  • Pick a lane. Skincare for oily skin, drugstore makeup, natural hair, nails, fragrance, men's grooming. A clear lane tells a brand exactly who you reach.
  • Be consistent. A steady posting rhythm tells brands you will deliver on time.

Know your engagement rate

Influee suggests this formula: add likes, comments and saves, divide by followers, and multiply by 100. Do it for your last 10 posts and average them. If you are above 3 percent, put it in your pitch. If you are under 1 percent, lead with content quality instead (Influee).

Later adds that brands often care more about engagement rate than follower count, and that they can check your numbers with outside tools, so keep them honest (Later). Put this in a simple media kit.

How to pitch beauty brands

  1. Start with brands you already use. Your honest enthusiasm is your best pitch.
  2. Go for indie and newer brands first. They often need content more than big names do.
  3. Keep the email short. Say who you are, who your audience is, and the exact content you want to make, like "a 30 second wear test Reel and three Stories."
  4. Follow up with results. Influee notes brands often say yes on the second ask, not the first. After a gifted post, send back views, saves, link clicks and comments asking where to buy (Influee). That is how gifted turns into paid.
  5. Join a creator marketplace. For example, TikTok One requires you to be 18 or older, and its brand projects typically need 1,000 or more followers plus other requirements that vary by project (TikTok).

Honesty rules matter more in beauty

Beauty audiences buy based on your word, so the rules are strict.

  • Disclose free product. The FTC says free or discounted products count as a financial tie, and you should disclose even if you think your review is unbiased (FTC). The FTC's FAQ says to name who gave you the product, for example "I was given a free [product] to review" (FTC).
  • Put it where people see it. In the post or the video itself, spoken and on screen for video. Not only in the caption or a pile of hashtags. Vague tags like "sp," "spon" or "collab" do not count.
  • Only talk about what you tried. The FTC says you cannot claim you use something regularly after trying it once, and you cannot call a product you did not like great (FTC).
  • Do not make claims the brand cannot prove. The FTC warns against claims that need proof the advertiser does not have, such as health benefits (FTC). In skincare, that means skipping promises like "cures acne" unless the brand can back it up.

Pricing and contracts for beauty deals

Influencer Marketing Hub's 2026 benchmarks put Instagram posts at roughly 10 to 100 dollars or more for nano creators (under 10K followers) and 100 to 500 dollars or more for micro creators (10K to 100K), with TikTok videos at roughly 50 to 200 dollars for nano and 200 to 800 dollars for micro (Influencer Marketing Hub). Treat those as rough ranges. The same source warns that follower count should never be a standalone pricing formula, and that usage rights, exclusivity and extra revisions all raise the price. See how much to charge for a sponsored post.

Beauty brands love reusing creator videos as ads, so read the reuse clause. Influee warns that some gifting terms let a brand run your video as a paid ad, which is advertising use beyond a gifted post, and says to ask for the usage window and charge for it (Influee). Paid ad licenses are commonly 30, 60 or 90 days (Superfiliate).

Also check exclusivity. A skincare brand may ask you not to post competitors. Keep it narrow, limited to direct competitors and a set period, and get paid for it.

Questions

How many followers do I need for beauty brand deals?

There is no official minimum. Many gifting programs start around 1,000 followers, and brands weigh niche fit, content quality and engagement heavily, so a small account with great demos can win deals.

How do I turn PR packages into paid deals?

Post about the product, then follow up with the brand showing real results like views, saves, clicks and comments asking where to buy. Brands often say yes on the second ask, once they see proof.

Do I have to disclose PR packages?

If you post about free product, the FTC says to disclose it clearly, in the post itself, and name who gave it to you. That applies even if you think your review is unbiased.

Can a brand use my makeup tutorial as an ad?

Only if your agreement allows it. Running your content as a paid ad is separate from a gifted or sponsored post. Ask for the usage window in writing and charge for it.
